3 Ingenious Methods for Getting an Influencer to Take Notice

Getting an Influencer's AttentionInfluencer marketing is becoming increasingly difficult. Most struggle with identifying the right people for their campaign. An equally challenging endeavor is getting an influencer to notice that you even exist.

Partially due to the crazy success of influencer marketing, and partially due to their own achievements, influencers’ email inboxes and social channels are brimming with messages and offers; most of which they will never see. The immense amount of hubbub causes so many outreach attempts to simply become lost in the mix, and at some point in time, to become deleted.

This poses a significant challenge for marketers. After all, you can’t lock in an influencer for a campaign if you can’t even get through to them. Since email is proving to be less and less effective for communicating with these folks, businesses and promoters need to get creative with their efforts.

If you have have difficulty reaching influencers, try these clever ways of standing out.

#1: Feature Them in an Article

Everyone loves receiving praise for their work. Make influencers feel special and recognized by you or your company by featuring them in an article, video, or similar promotional piece.

You can achieve this by quoting them with one of their more poignant comments and including a link to their website, social media account, or a recent content offering.

A writer for Kissmetrics took this route a few years back with the article “50 Inspiring Quotes from 50 Top Social Media Power Influencers.” The piece subsequently gained a significant amount of comments, 1,500 tweets, and hundreds of shares across social platforms. This is thanks to all the shares from those who were proudly featured.

You can even take things a step further than simply quoting someone – instead, try featuring their work as a shining example of how to achieve something. Doing this not only shows an influencer that you are willing to help them build their audience, gain more traffic, and so forth, but it also shows your familiarity with the materials they are putting out into the world.

Be sure to share the piece on social media and tag them in the post. This will help to gain their attention and place you on their radar.

#2: Create a Content Bonus

There are many influencers out there who would love to offer their audiences content bonuses, but simply don’t have the time to create them. Take it upon yourself to craft a content upgrade for one of their latest posts, or even repurpose a piece of content by creating an infographic, SlideShare presentation, or something similar.

Once again, reach out via social and let them know about your creation and that it is theirs to offer to their following. This again demonstrates your willingness to provide value and amplify their efforts without immediately gaining something in return.

After some time has past, you can reach out to them again to pitch your campaign and see if they are interested. Considering that you have already invested time, energy, and resources into helping them out, they are far more likely to return the favor.

#3: Just Say Hi

Influencers are constantly bombarded with people asking them to help promote their product or services, reaching out to simply say hello or thank you can be refreshing. Better yet, you can even offer your assistance to help promote them; again, a fresh experience in a sea of posts asking the influencer to help prop up others.

Don’t be afraid to show your personality; not your professional persona. Be authentic and bold, proudly display your sense of humor. Doing so can really make the difference between someone who is memorable or forgettable.

Influencers are constantly asked to promote someone else. Treat these folks like the people they are and offer a bit of your personal assistance. Turn the tables and help promote their name and content. Most importantly, be genuine, authentic, sincere, and creative in anything you do to get these folks to notice you. Going the extra mile will pay off in the long run.
